ReadSource and PBSA Partnership Receives 2025 Georgia Reads Community Award
ATLANTA—Feb. 25, 2025.
The ReadSource Purpose Built Schools of Atlanta (PBSA) partnership was one of ten recipients of the 2025 Georgia Reads Community Awards on Feb. 25, 2025. Hosted by the Georgia Council on Literacy, the Georgia Reads Awards recognize communities that have implemented programs resulting in literacy improvements for the populations served; this year, more than sixty community partnerships applied to the award pool.
Accepting the award at the Georgia State Capitol were Dr. Kara A. Loftin, executive director of ReadSource; Dr. Nikkita Warfield, chief academic officer of PBSA; Dr. Tonya Williams-Saunders, community engagement manager for PBSA; and Caroline Pasternak, project coordinator for the ReadSource/PBSA partnership.
Awards include $25,000 towards the continuation and evaluation of the existing program. In the coming weeks, the success of the ReadSource/PBSA partnership will be further celebrated with a Reading Rally led by Malcolm Mitchell, a Georgia Reads Coach, former professional football player, and CEO and founder of Share the Magic Foundation.
At the Awards ceremony, Mitchell said, “Reading gives students hope for the future… reading is a bridge to… move in a direction closer to the desired outcome that you want to possess.” ReadSource and PBSA are pleased to help build bridges to literacy.
ReadSource was established in 2014 as the extension arm of The Schenck School; its mission is to empower individuals who struggle to read by equipping educators with the science of reading and providing direct student instruction, expanding access across the community. ReadSource and PBSA have been in partnership since 2018.
